Heart Nails

What I Used:

Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Colour – Man Overboard, Ring A Ring O’ Roses – £3.69 each

Barry M Basecoat & Topcoat – £2.99

Essie Matte About You Mattifying Top Coat – £7.99

Tutorial

Difficulty – 3/10

This one is easy, but will only work if your polish brush is wide – I recommend using a Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Colour polish as their brushes are perfect for drawing the hearts.

1. Apply base coat.

2. Apply two coats of Man Overboard to all but one nail.

3. Apply two coats of Ring A Ring O’ Roses on your accent nail.

4. Using Ring A Ring O’ Roses draw your heart onto the largest nail. You want to do this in only two strokes of the brush, starting at the top of the heart at either side, and bringing them in opposite directions, meeting at the point of the heart. You literally draw two thick, straight lines. Be careful to make your lines the same length and at the same angle, otherwise your heart will look uneven. Apply a second coat if necessary.

5. Apply a mattifying top coat.

Blue Patchwork

What I Used:

Barry M Nail Paint – Cyan Blue, Indigo, Spring Green – £2.99 each

Barry M Basecoat & Topcoat – £2.99

Barry M Nail Art Pen – Black – £4.99

Technic Nail Polish – South Pacific – 99p

Essie Matte About You Mattifying Top Coat – £7.99

Tutorial

Difficulty – 6/10

This one will be a bit tricky if you don’t have a nail art pen, although it is possible to do with a nail art brush or even with your usual nail polish brush. This is a very versatile design too, try experimenting with different colours and shapes! If you get stuck at any point just use the picture of my design above as a guide.

1. Apply base coat.

2. Apply two coats of your base colour – I used South Pacific.

3. Paint on various shapes with your other colours – I chose to use three but you can use as many as you want. I wouldn’t recommend using less than three colours altogether though. Try to keep the ratio of colours even so that you don’t have too much or too little of any particular colour – also remember to leave some of your base colour showing!

4. Draw lines between the shapes using either a black nail art pen or with black nail polish, applied with either the normal polish brush or a nail art brush. I would recommend using a nail art pen or brush as it’s easier to get more precise lines.

5. Apply stitch marks here and there on the lines to create that ‘sewn up’ effect.

6. Apply mattifying top coat.

Barry M Basecoat & Topcoat – £2.99

Light Pink Nail Gems

Tutorial

Difficulty: 5/10

If you’ve applied nail gems before, then this design will be a doddle – if not, you may find it a bit more time-consuming, but should still manage without too much difficulty.

1. Apply basecoat.

2. Apply one/two coats of Matt White.

3. Apply two coats of Strawberry Ice-Cream, leaving the tips white.

4. Apply a line of nail glue where the pink and white meet.

5. Get a little nail glue on the end of your dotting tool (or orange stick, etc.) and quickly apply the nail gems along the line before the glue dries. Be careful to keep the line straight and make sure the gems are packed tightly next to one another.

6. Apply top coat.

Competition Results!

The ‘Inspiration’ nail art competition ended today and I am happy to announce that Camelia Bhaskar of Adventures in Beautyland won win her lovely Blue and White Polka design – inspired by a blue and white polka dot dress!

It was a close call, Camelia won with 151 votes, just 4 more than competitor bebe1221 who managed to scoop up 147 votes for her Bob Marley design. Coming in third was Intraordinary with her Minion Nails, at 94 votes. I was thrilled to see that a whole 438 votes were cast in this competition – thank you for everybody who took part. As her prize, Camelia will get to choose between a free false nail set designed by myself + a voucher code for my Etsy shop, or some nail art supplies. Her facebook page will also be featured in a blog post here on the Nail Artisan blog, so keep an eye out for that!

And don’t forget the prize draw for the voters! 14 people put their names down for the draw, and after running the names through a random number generator, the winner was number 9 – favmoongirl! She will receive a 10% off voucher code for my Etsy shop – congratulations favmoongirl!

I hope everyone who took part had fun, and everyone got to see some beautiful designs and discover some new nail artists! Well done everyone!

Half An Hour!

Only half an hour until voting closes and we announce our winner! Right now it’s a very close run between two of our competitors – but everything could change! If you haven’t voted yet then what are you waiting for? In half an hour I will close the competition – I will announce the winner sometime later today, as well as the winner in the voters’ prize draw! So keep your eyes peeled for my next post!
